Where can I go Stargazing in Leeds?

It can be difficult to find somewhere to go stargazing nowadays. And it was only recently after I returned from stargazing in Scotland that I realised I’d like to find somewhere a little closer to home (even up North, Scotland is a few hours drive). So, I’ve done some research and found some of the best places for stargazing in Leeds.

Of course, there are a ton of other places that you might want to consider going too, but here are some of my favorites if you’re in the Leeds area and don’t want to venture more than an hour or so.

Almscliff Crag

Undoubtedly one of the best spots to go stargazing if you’re looking for somewhere to go relatively close to Leeds is to go to Almscliff Crag. It isn’t too far, and is between Leeds and Harrogate, so it shouldn’t take you too long to get there.

One of the best things about Almscliff Crag is that it’s not particularly busy. It’s actually on reserved private land, so if you do decide to visit then it’s imperative that you take care of the crag and leave it in the same way it was when you arrived.

Eccup Reservoir

Another place that you might want to consider visiting is Eccup Resevoir. It’s one of the places that the Leeds Astronomy Society recommend visiting, so it’s undoubtedly worth your time going over there and seeing if it’s suitable for you. In terms of Leeds, it’s one of the best places to visit without heading too far out of the city centre.

Eccup Reservoir is one of the best places to go if you like walking as well, as their Reservoir Walk is one of the best in the area. If you want to combine the two activities, then it’s definitely worth checking it out for a few hours.

If you’re considering going camping as well, then Appletreewick is undoubtedly somewhere that you’re going to want to consider. It’s one of the best areas to go camping, and you can undoubtedly get some awesome stargazing in whilst you’re there too.

Overall, these are just three of the areas that you can visit if you’re at university in Leeds and are looking for somewhere local to go stargazing. Or, you may be a local looking for a new area to frequent. Whichever you are, these are three of the better areas that you might want to consider visiting if you’re in the Leeds area.

If you want to go stargazing, then you’ll undoubtedly want to get out of the city centre, which is the worst place to go stargazing due to a high amount of light pollution. This can be extremely annoying, so you’ll want to look at other places to go stargazing – there are a ton of good places in the North to get your stargazing fix.
